Omnicell Open Systems

Omnicell's software, reporting and functionality can control open items.

Open items can be added onto a standard cabinet as remote items so that a large stock of bulky or low value items can be run, controlled and automatically reordered through the cabinet. This increases the effectiveness of the cabinet because all stock items can be handled and costed on the same system.

Remote items can either be logged through a list on the touch screen or can be scanned using a wireless scanner against bar codes on the open shelf or on a paper list nearby.

An entire area can be all be run on a local PC or an Omnicell table top terminal on the same basis. In low volume, low cost areas Omnicell software and a wireless scanner is all that is needed to add Omnicell into the Trust network of stock controlled locations.

Open systems perform many of the same functions as the closed cabinets but are not appropriate for areas that have many users, high values, high staff turnover or other control issues and will not normally deliver the same degree of compliance as closed systems such as cabinets.

They can be used effectively as a point-of-use costing and local stock control method in some theatres and can be combined with cabinet automation in central strores,
